Pastor's Welcome Message
“Churches come in many shapes and forms. But often people don’t realise that the Bible knows nothing of churches as buildings. When Jesus spoke of church he certainly meant a gathering of people. So that’s what we are! Whether we meet together in a larger meeting on Sunday morning, a smaller one on a Sunday evening or in various groups around the village during the week, church isn’t a place but a people. Maybe you’d like to come and see what Church is like for yourself! You will be very welcome just to come along and see. A Sunday morning is a good chance to find out about what we believe and do. It starts at 10.30am. There is a range of ages from new born to the elderly. Some have been Christians for many years but others have not yet made up their minds. You might just wish to sit near the back and investigate it for yourself! We usually sing a few songs, some old and some new with a band and singers to help us stay in tune! There is a short talk aimed particularly at younger members after which, at about 11am, the children can attend their own Lighthouse Club classes which range from a crèche to children up to 12 years old.
The sermon is always an important part of the morning service and is a talk about 30 minutes long. The sermon is always based on a passage from the Bible. Generally we cover a book of the Bible week by week. In recent years we have studied the books of Acts, Genesis, Mark and Jonah. At the moment we are studying the book of 1 Corinthians which was a letter written by Paul. Various people in the church fellowship preach and we have visitors come and speak too.
The morning meeting finishes by about 11.40am with coffee and tea. If you aren’t in a hurry to get away it’s always fun to stop and talk with other people from in and around our community.
Of course, the morning service is not the only meeting we run. The evening service is smaller in number, usually about 40 people, and gives more opportunity for discussion or prayer in groups. Many groups meet during the week. If you want to start at the beginning then I recommend the Alpha course on Tuesday nights. If you want to explore faith further then our small groups meet to study the Bible and pray together. Evening meetings in five different homes meet on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. A Thursday morning may be more appropriate to you and teenagers have their own Wednesday night group. This website will give you an idea of other groups including a range of youth clubs and a carers café for those who need support as they care for unwell relatives.
Best Wishes,
Chris Sinkinson”
